Is my child at-risk?
Parents play a pivotal role in keeping their children out of gangs. You can protect your kids from gang activity by monitoring their activities, developing a close relationship with them , talking about the risks of gangs and by meeting your child’s friends.
Unfortunately, many parents lack factual information about gangs. Youth between 12-14 years old are most likely to consider joining a gang; however, children as young as third grade can be recruited.
You should know that kids who have school difficulties, a lack of parental supervision, use alcohol or other drugs, are often truant and who are susceptible to peer influence are the most at-risk for gang involvement.
