Snohomish County Children’s Commission
“We Value Kids”
Celebrating 30 years of Support and Strength for Snohomish County’s Children
Thirty years ago, after the tragic and heart-breaking death of two young boys, the Snohomish County Children’s Commission was created by the Snohomish County Council. The Commission was created as an advisory body to research and make recommendations to the County Council and Executive on matters pertaining to children. This newly formed group approached the task with determination, hope and compassion. Their efforts have raised awareness and support for the needs of our County’s children for the last 30 years.
Throughout those 30 years, the Children’s Commission has initiated, participated in and lead many important child-focused activities countywide. It partnered to help create the Imagine Children’s Museum and Dawson Place. It has provided workshops and panels for families and professionals regarding complex issues for children and families. It has assisted families in understanding Adverse Childhood Experiences (ACE’s ) while recognizing the possibilities for change and improvements. More recently it has been looking at the impact of marijuana legalization and its use by our youth.
